Kaitheri County Ploytechnic is located along Kerugoya/Kutus Rd 200 meters off Kerugoya Town in Kirinyaga county. It was started in 1959 on twelve acres of land set aside by Kirinyaga County council as a youth recreational club offering dancing and boxing activities .Later, leather tanning and leather work were introduced. The club was also used as an adult learning center.In 1962 The first eighteen trainees were admitted with the club offering carpentry and joinery. In 1972 it became a village polytechnic with additional courses such as Home Economics , Masonry, Tailoring and Dress making. The courses were expanded with the addition of Motor vehicle Mechanics in 1982. By 1994, Electrical installation, Metal Work Fabrication and plumbing had been added. Later on Hairdressing and Beauty therapy has also been introduced.In 2013, Kaitheri Youth Polytechnic was among the functions that were devolved to county Government. It was then changed the name to Kaitheri County Polytechnic.
