Admission requirements:
An applicant must have credit passes (A1-C6) in core English, core Mathematics, and either core Integrated Science or Social Studies and three elective subjects, with an overall aggregate score of Thirty-six (36) or better. In addition, candidates must satisfy the specific requirements of the relevant Faculty/School. The entry is at Level 100:
a.Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE).
An applicant must have credit passes (A-D) in core English, core Mathematics and either core Science or Social Studies and three elective subjects, with an overall aggregate score of Twenty-four (24) or better. In addition, candidates must satisfy the specific requirements of the relevant faculty/school. Entry is at Level 100.
b.General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary and Advanced Levels.
An applicant must have at least credit passes in 5 subjects (including English Language and Mathematics at the GCE Ordinary Level and at least 2 passes at the GCE Advanced Level. One of the Advanced Level passes must be grade ‘D’ or better. A pass in General Paper must also be obtained. Entry is at Level 100.
c.Professional qualifications/Tertiary Diplomas (Entry at levels 200 and 300).
The level of placement of professional certificate and tertiary level diploma holders will depend on the assessment of their certificates or diplomas in relation to the programme desired. All professional certificate and tertiary level diploma holders must have either G.C.E. “O” Level credit passes in English Language and Mathematics or SSSCE/WASSCE credit passes in English Language and Core Mathematics to qualify for admission. The placement level of candidates will depend on assessment of their certificates by the relevant Faculty/School or Department.
d.Admission through Mature Students’ Entrance Examination.
The candidate must be at least 25 years old by 31st December of the year preceding the examination. A certified copy of birth certificate is required. The date of issue of the birth certificate should not be less than five years from the date of the completion of the admission forms. The submission of fraudulent certificates is grounds for withdrawal at any point in a student’s enrolment.
Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations consist of a General Paper for all candidates and two papers in the area(s) of specialization desired.
e.Applicants with foreign certificates.
Foreign applicants must have qualifications equivalent to the above to be considered for admission. Their results must also be translated into English and they should be able to read and write in English. Additionally, all foreign certificates validated by the National Accreditation Board. Applicants may also be required to pass an entrance examination/interview.
In addition to the general admission requirements, Schools, Faculties and Departments may have special entry requirements. The academic catalogues of the Schools and Faculties must be consulted for up-to-date information.
f.Entry requirements for Diploma programmes
To be admitted to a Diploma programme, a candidate must satisfy the following minimum requirements besides conditions stipulated for the particular programme:

i. An applicant with SSSCE must have credit passes (A – D) in six subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus any three electives subjects
ii. An applicant with WASSCE must have credit passes (A1 – C6) in six subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus any three electives subjects
iii. An applicant with GBCE must have credit passes (A – D) in six subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus any three electives subjects
b. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level
An applicant with GCE Advanced Level must have passed three subjects ( at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better. Also the applicant must have had credits passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (for a non- science student) or an Arts subject (for a Sconce student
c. Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE)
An applicant with ABCE candidate must hold a Full Diploma Certificate in ABCE. In addition, the applicant must have credit passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) or SSSCE or WASSCE
d. Mature Candidates
An applicant applying as a mature candidate must be at least 25 years old, and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 5 years old at the time of application.The candidate shall be required to write and pass an examination consisting of English Language, Mathematics and an Aptitude Test conducted by the University.
e. Foreign and other Qualifications
All foreign and other qualifications beyond the ones specified above shall be referred to the National Accreditation Board for the establishment of their equivalences to determine their eligibility for admission to the University.

SSSCE: Interested and qualified applicants should have aggregate 24 or better with credit passes in six subjects: (3) Core subjects including Mathematics, English and either Integrated Science or Social Studies; and any other (3) electives
WASSCE: Interested and qualified applicants should have aggregate 36 or better with credit passes in six subjects: (3) Core subjects including Mathematics, English and either Integrated Science or Social Studies; and any other (3) electives;
GBCE/ABCE: Holders with passes in English and Mathematic, and any other (3) electives can apply.
GCE ‘O’ & ‘A’ Levels: Applicants must have passes in (2) subjects and a General Paper plus (5) passes at ‘O’ Level including English, Mathematics, Arts or Science subject.
Other Qualifications: Professional Certificate and Diploma holders of: HND, ICA, CIM, CIMA (I&II), SRN, RGN, RM, TEACHER’S CERT. ‘A’/DIPLOMA, CHN, EN, DBS, etc. can apply and may be considered for higher placement. (Please, enclose transcript(s) and result slip(s) of SSSCE/WASSCE/GCE, etc).
Mature Applicants: Interested applicants, who do not satisfy the above criteria but are 27years and above or with work experience, can apply. The applicants will be considered to write Entrance Examination and attend Interview. You will be admitted upon passing the Examination and Interview sessions.

Admission requirements:
WASSCE
Applicants with WASSCE must obtain a minimum of six credit passes (C6) in six subjects (3 core and 3 elective subjects respectively).
SSSCE
A minimum aggregate score of 24. Applicants must obtain at least a D (4) in six subjects.
GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels
Applicants with ´O´ or ´A´ Levels must have Grade 6 or better in five (5) ´O´ level subjects including English, Math and a Science / Arts subject. In addition, they must have passes in 3 subjects, one of the passes should be Grade D or better at the ´A´ Levels.
International Students
International students with qualifications equivalent to those mentioned above (1-2) may be considered for admission. They must also show evidence of proficiency in English. This includes applicants holding Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE, GCSE and other external qualifications which have equivalences to the SSSCE, WASSCE and GCE.
Mature Candidates
Must be Ghanaian nationals, 25 years or above and must pass a mature candidates qualifying examination and interview.
Other Qualifications
Holders of University of Ghana Diploma or its equivalent, with Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 3.25 or better, eligible to apply to the same area of study. Holders of Diplomas in other areas of study must have distinction.

All applicants who have ever attended or graduated with Certificate/Diploma from the University of Ghana from 1996 to date should indicate their **STUDENT IDENTITYNUMBERS** on their application forms. The same number will be used in the intended programme of study if admitted.
Since the 2007/2008 academic year, the University of Ghana has ceased to admit applicants with the West African Examination Council’s Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificates
All Applicants must take note that the process for admission to the University of Ghana is very transparent. Applicants should therefore beware of any persons who may approach them on the pretext of assisting them gain admission for a fee.
