The Department runs three and four-year B.LIS degree programmes. It admits students to the four-year degree programmes from the one-year remedial (preliminary) programme of the university. To qualify for admission, the candidate must obtain an acceptable score in the Unified Tertriary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by JAMB, and must also possess at least five credits in WASC/NECO or their equivalent, including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings. Candidates seeking the direct entry admission must possess one of the following qualifications.

1.Five credits in GCE ordinary level or its equivalent, including English language with least pass in mathematics plus two advanced level in GCE/HSC/IJMB examinations, or four credits at ordinary level plus three advanced level passes.

2.The Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).

3.The Diploma in Library and Information Science passed at a credit level from a recognized tertiary institution

Entry requirements:
Five Ordinary Level credits passes at WASSCE, SSCE, or GCE, which must include: English Language, Government/History, another Arts subject and any other two Arts or Social Science subjects.

Students are expected to pass the following courses in the University Matriculation Examination (UME): English Language, History or Government and other relevant courses in the Arts or Social Sciences.

Direct Entry Students will be expected to possess (in addition to the basic UME requirements) a diploma in relevant and related areas, with minimum of Upper Credit pass from institutes recognized by the Senate of Benson Idahosa University.

The minimum entry requirement for admission into Lead Ciity University is GCE O/L, SSCE/NABTEB/ NECO or equivalent credit level pass in five(5) subjects, including English Language, and Mathematics, obtained at not more than two sittings. Those with additional (Direct Entry) qualification such as University Diploma, NCE, IJMB, OND, GCE 'A' Level or equivalent professional qualification etc are to proceed from part II. However, candidates awaiting result may apply provided evidence of results would be available before resumption.
