Institutions Offering PhD in Communication and Information Studies

•  University of Nairobi, Nairobi  
  Admission Requirements:
  (i) An applicant who qualifies for admission shall be deemed to have satisfied the requirements spelt out in the Common Regulations for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy of the University of Nairobi.
  
  (ii) A successful applicant shall register as a doctoral candidate and take the required seminars. Candidates may embark upon their Thesis Research only after successful completion of the seminar phase of the programme.
  
  (iii) Subject to the approval of the Senate, the programme may require a candidate to attend such a course or courses as may be considered appropriate to remedy deficiencies in the candidate’s academic background or to endow the candidate with specialized skills or knowledge to assist him in his research.
  
  (iv) Duration: The doctoral programme shall last for a minimum period of eighteen (18) months. No the doctoral candidate shall be registered as a full-time student for more than four (4) years or as a part-time student for more than five (5) without submitting her/his thesis, except by permission of Senate.
  
  (v) Change of Registration Status: Subject to the approval of Senate, a candidate may change his/her registration status from part-time to full-time or vice versa once only, in which case regulation (iv) above shall apply to such a candidate as if he/she had initially been admitted to the status he/she now seeks.
