    The multi-engine rating allows the holder to fly an aircraft with more than one engine. Multi-Engine aircraft are categorized into 2 groups :

    Group 1 : Multi-Engine Aircraft with non-centerline thrust
    Group 2 : Multi-Engine Aircraft with centerline thrust

    PRIVILEGES
    A Group 1 Multi-Engine Rating also allows the holder to fly Group 2 aircraft.
    A Group 2 Multi-Engine Rating limits the holder to fly Group 2 aircraft. Flying Group 1 aircraft is not permitted.

    PREREQUISITES
    - The applicant must have at least a private pilot license.
    - The applicant must hold a valid Class 3 medical or higher.

    REQUIREMENTS
    - No specific hours are required. Student can be recommended for flight test when he/she demonstrates sufficient skill.
    - No written exam required.
    - Applicant must successfully complete flight test

    he Multi Engine rating is typically completed as part of the Commercial Pilot’s Licence and Instrument Rating (CPL/IR).
    This rating:
    a) allows you to pilot multi-engined aircraft,
    b) provides more job opportunities in the future and c) is a pre-requisite for the issue of the Air Transport Pilot’s Licence (ATPL).

    The Multi-Engine rating may also be completed separately at any time after completing a single-engine Commercial Licence or after achieving 100 hours PIC as a PPL licence holder.

    The Prospective Student Must:
    - Be the holder of a valid PPL with 100 Hours PIC or be the holder of a CPL.
    - Complete a minimum of 6 Hours training on a multi-engined aircraft of which a maximum 3 hours may be completed in a simulator.
    - In order to obtain a Multi-Engine Class rating with an Instrument Rating (ME/IR) the student must complete an additional 5 hours of Instrument training of which 3 may be completed in a simulator.

    Course entry requirements:
    (i) You must hold a valid Private Pilot License
    (ii) At least 100 hours as PIC in an aeroplane.
    (iii) 7 hours of theoretical knowledge instruction (briefings) on multi-engine aeroplane operation.
    (iv) 6 hours of dual flight training in multi-engine aeroplane operation. This must include not less than 2.5 hours dual flight training covering normal conditions and operations and at least 3.5 hours dual flight training in engine-failure procedures and asymmetric flight. A maximum of 3 hours may be completed in a FSTD approved for this purpose.
    (v) In the case where the applicant is the holder of a valid instrument rating on a different category or class of aircraft and wishes to have the instrument rating endorsed on their multi-engine rating the applicant must complete at least 5 hours of additional instrument training of which no more than 3 hours may be completed in a FSTD approved for this purpose.

    Course entry requirements
    -Hold, as a minimum, a valid Private Pilot Licence.
    -7 hours of theoretical knowledge instruction in a multi-engine aircraft
    -Must have at least 70 Hours of PIC of Aircraft
    -Have completed a minimum of 6 hours dual flight training on multi-engine aircraft, including not less than 2 hours dual flight training under normal conditions and at least 3.3 hours dual flight in engine failure procedures and asymmetric flight. At most 3 hours of the dual flight training may be acquired in an approved flight simulator.
    -Pass a practical flight test with a SACAA-designated Examiner.

    (i) Applicants must be at least 17 years old.

    (ii) Students must be eligible to live in South Africa.

    (iii) International students must have a study VISA.

    (iv) Students must be proficient in English.

    (vi) Students must pass an Aviation Medical Exam

    (vii) Eagle Air has no academic requirements.

    (viii) Mathematics, Physical Science and Geography will be a great benefit – but this is not compulsory.
