Institutions Offering Bachelor of Engineering (Sustainable Systems Engineering) (Honours)/Bachelor of Industrial Design (Honours)
RMIT University
, Melbourne
Duration:
Full-time 5 years, Part-time 10 years
Program Structure:
Years 1, 2 and 3
You'll focus on the development of a sustainable systems approach. This brings together the fundamentals of engineering sciences, mathematics, engineering design and engineering professional practice.
All engineering students will also study an Introduction to Engineering course, incorporating a humanitarian-focused Engineers Without Borders Challenge. You’ll have the opportunity to extend this aspect of your studies by completing a Humanitarian Engineering elective, enabling you to experience humanitarian engineering first-hand.
You’ll gain foundational exposures to the methods and nature of the designed form, and the socio-cultural factors of design and designing.
As you progress, you’ll gain an increased understanding of the technical, technological and contextual complexity by which design activity is to be considered, providing significant avenues of choice in industrial design practice.
You’ll be able to complete a work-integrated learning (industry experience) elective in Year 2, 3, 4 or 5.
Years 4 and 5
In the final years of the degree, you’ll be able to take specialist elective courses in energy, transport and logistics, and materials.
Your final-year (capstone) project provides the challenge of defining and demonstrating an area of professional engagement through a year-long, research-led and industry-engaged design project. It will develop and reinforce the skills and knowledge you need to commence your professional engineering or design career. This experience acts as a scaffold for entry into the profession and opens opportunities beyond graduation.
