Course entry requirements
(i) Senior Secondary School Certificate:
-Core Subjects: Students must have credit passes in three subjects, namely, English, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies.
-Elective Subjects: Students must have credit passes in three elective subjects that should include Elective Mathematics, Business Management, Financial Accounting, Geography, Economics, Government, Integrated Religious Studies, and other business related courses (Elective courses in General Science, Business Studies, and General Arts) are required. Note: In order not to impose too much restrictions on admissions to the programme, we have agreed to admit applicants who may not have Elective Mathematics.
-Minimum Aggregate: Candidate’s aggregate score in the three core and three elective subjects indicated above shall not exceed 24.
-A credit pass in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination is understood to mean a candidate’s performance at grades ranging between A and D, and interpreted as follows:
A – 1 (Excellent)
B – 2 (Very Good)
C – 3 (Good)
D – 4 (Credit)
(ii) West African Secondary School Certificate:
-Core Subjects: Students must have credit passes in three subjects, namely English, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies;
-Elective Subjects: Students must have credit passes in three elective subjects which should include Elective Mathematics, Accounting or Economics plus two other electives (Elective courses in General Science, Business Studies, and General Arts) are required. Note: In order not to impose too much restrictions on admissions to the programme, we have agreed to admit applicants who may not have Elective Mathematics.
-Minimum Aggregate: Candidate’s aggregate score in the three core and three elective subjects indicated above shall not exceed 36.
A credit pass in the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination is understood to mean a candidate’s performance at grades ranging between A1 and C6, and interpreted as follows:
A1- 1 (Excellent)
B2 – 2 (Very Good)
B3 – 3 (Good)
C4, C5, C6 – 4, 5, 6 (Credit)
(iii) General Business Certificate Examinations (GBCE)
-Credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subject comprising three core subjects including English Language and Mathematics plus three (3) relevant elective subjects. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Candidates
-Passes in three (3) subject (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject (for Science students).
(iii) Other Qualifications:
-Higher National Diploma: Higher National Diploma holders with a pass or better in Marketing, Human Resource Management, Purchasing and Supply, Accounting, Banking & Finance, Statistics, Management, Entrepreneurship, and other related programmes from an institution whose diploma has been accredited by the NAB or from a foreign institution that is recognized by the NAB will be considered for admission to Level 200. Further, if an applicant has a pass that applicant will be considered for admission to level 100, and if an applicant has a good class (second class lower and above) that applicant will be considered for admission to level 200.
(iv)Professional Qualifications
-Students who have passed and obtained certificates in ACCA, ICA, CIMA, ACCE, etc., will be considered for admission to level 300, Level two qualification of professional bodies such as ACCA, ICA, Taxation, CIMA, ACCE, etc., will be considered for admission to Level 200 of the programme. However, they must have at least a pass in Elective Mathematics or its equivalent.
(v) Mature Students’ Entry
-Mature students entry avenues to tertiary education provide opportunities for people who could not do so earlier in their lives to further their education at the tertiary level after some years in the workplace.
. The applicant must be at least 25 years old, and show proof of age with birth certificate or any other legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 5 years old at the time of application;
ii. In the case of WIUC, mature applicants will attend classes on WIUC campus for six (6) weeks after which they will write examinations in English, Mathematics, Economics and Information Communication Technology. The pass mark for each paper is 40%. The examinations will be moderated and the marked scripts, vetted by the mentor institution. Only successful candidates will be admitted to Level 100. In lieu of such examinations, the applicant should show proof of credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in WASSCE or any other nationally recognized standard High School level examinations (for qualifications from countries outside WAEC’s aegis).
Transfer Students: A candidate who has been formally admitted as a regular student to a Bachelor’s Degree course in a University accredited by NAB and made satisfactory progress over not less than one academic year may be considered as a transfer student. Transcripts of academic records of such students must be made available to the Registrar of the University for scrutiny. Transfer students cannot be admitted at a level higher than level 300.
Visiting/Occasional/Foreign Students: The University admits other students for varying durations in the Bachelor’s degree programme, as Visiting, Occasional and Foreign students. All foreign certificates will be referred to the mentoring University’s admissions office for approval.
